It is my Grandpa Clayton's 115th birthday! He died in 1985. I regret that I never knew him outside the nursing home. We would frequently visit. He was very hard of hearing and had suffered some strokes. I know from my Dad that he was a wonderful man. He lived in Iowa and raised my Dad on the family farm there. My Dad was the youngest and born when my Grandpa was 50 years old. Because my Grandma died when my dad was 13, my Grandpa raised my Dad alone. It was just the 2 of them for all those years. They had a special bond. He was a very good Father to my Dad. My Grandpa was never a member of the church or religious man but very honest and hardworking. He was a mason, and a farmer for his occupation. I look forward to the day when I can get to know my Grandpa better.

What a tribute to your Grandpa. Raising your Dad like like. I'm sure he was amazing. Are you getting into Genealogy? It is fascinating to hear about our ancestors.
