I'm proud to be an American today.

I've had very mixed feelings about this election. I think it is because I'm a republican and have conservative views on government. But I can't help but be happy for the outcome of the election last night. I don't feel scared about the outcome like I did when the Clintons were elected. Regardless of policies I love the energy, excitement, and hope the country is feeling right now. I think that can only be a good thing. I like that Obama is fresh blood in the whitehouse. I like his wife. I like that he is black. I like that he is young. I like the way he talks. I've hated the way the President has talked for the last 16 years. I never wanted this election to be about black, women, and mormon. But I am really happy for the black people that they are feeling progress has been made. They feel hope for their children. I can only imagine if you told a black slave that their would be a black president in a little over a century they would be blown away. I am glad he can be a good example for other black men who may not be carrying out their parental responsibilities. I hope after all the excitement that he does well. And that he is considered a good President in history. I love being alive during a historical moment. It will be something to tell the Grandkids about!

Thanks for sharing a good perspective on the whole thing. I've been a little bummed about it honestly because it wasn't the "best" outcome in my mind. I'm going to take your route and think of the wonderful progress our country has made and what a great time it is for ALL kinds of people to be alive!
